FAQs

  • You can start by scheduling a consultation call. Send me an e-mail or click on the link to my patient portal to schedule an appointment. Through my patient portal you can securely and confidentially fill out intake paperwork and sign consent forms. During our first session we will discuss what brings you to therapy, my approach to treatment, what you can expect from working with me and address concerns related to insurance or payment policies. Together, we will decide if I’m a good fit for providing therapeutic services to you.

  • I love this question! I know that finding the right therapist can be a challenge- I’ve experienced it in my own search for a therapist! (Yes, I see a therapist too.) In my experience, finding the right therapist felt a little bit like dating. I met with a number of people before I found the right one for me. I had to ask them a lot of questions to get to know them, their skill-set, and their approach to therapy.

Then I had to ask myself, “Do they make me feel safe, heard, and seen? Does it feel like they can empathize with me and will they tailor their approach to me individually? Or am I just another client? Will they respect my boundaries and protect my privacy? Do I feel a sense of personal connection to this person?” There are a lot of questions to consider, and yours may be different than mine. But when you know, you just know: it clicks.

If I’m not the right therapist for you that’s ok! I will be grateful to have met and gotten to know you. I would be happy to support you with referrals to another therapist that may be a better fit for you.

  • At the moment, I only provide services online, via telehealth. The telehealth, video meeting platform that I use is secure and confidential. If you have questions or concerns abut this, please feel free to reach out to me.

  • In our first session we’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, what you are looking for and how I may be able to help.

I’ll ask a lot of questions about you, the issues you’d like to address and your background. It may seem like a lot, but these questions help me understand you and how I think I can help.

We’ll discuss any concerns related to insurance, finances or confidentiality.

You’ll have space to ask me questions and then, together, we’ll decide if we are a good fit to work together.

If you’re still not sure, it’s perfectly fine for us to have a few more sessions together to decide if I’m the right fit for you.

  • I strive to make my (virtual) office a safe and welcoming space where you feel comfortable discussing anything.

I hope to guide you in learning about the connections between the brain, body, and spirit. I provide psycho-education about mental health symptoms, how they manifest, and I teach skills to manage them in times of distress.

I also work with clients to strengthen their ability to identify, label, challenge and/or manage intrusive or painful thoughts.

For clients with trauma histories, we will spend time unpacking these experiences and explore how they are impacting us today. We will work to identify triggers for painful memories and develop skills to manage the various types of distress that they can bring up.

The next step will be to desensitize these triggers, or take away some of their power so that when they do come up they aren’t quite as painful or overwhelming.

Together, we will work towards integrating all parts of self in a way that allows you to embrace and live each day in a personally rewarding way, no matter what challenges the day may bring.

  • I offer appointment times M-F from 9am to 6pm. My latest appointment time is 5pm.

  • Each session is scheduled for 50 minutes, although there is some wiggle room for sessions to go over on occasion.

If you would prefer sessions to be more or less than this alloted time I’m happy to discuss this with you and may be able to accommodate.

  • I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, United, Optum insurances, and self-pay clients.

A limited sliding scale is available for those who may qualify.

  • This depends on what brings you to therapy and what our treatment goals are. Research shows that for therapeutic services to provide lasting benefits, clients should expect to attend at least 10 sessions.

Your unique situation may require more or less. This is something that we will discuss together, after our initial session and at recurring intervals throughout treatment.

Ultimately, it’s up to you. If or when you decide to discontinue services I’d ask that you let me know ahead of time. Wrapping up our work together (treatment termination) is a very important step in the therapeutic process. It’s important for us to review the work that we’ve done together, solidify skills that we’ve covered and make a plan for any future challenges we may be able to anticipate.

  • Absolutely! All treatment is confidential and I strictly adhere to the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guideline.

I will not disclose any information about you or our work together without written consent from you.

(There are a few exceptions to this: If I have reasonable suspicion that you or someone else are in immediate danger or evidence of child/ elder abuse or neglect. In these circumstances, information would only be disclosed on a need to know basis to protect others from harm. We can discuss this further and any potential questions or concerns you may have about this when we meet.)

  • I proudly identify as queer and nonbinary. It took a lot of work, self-reflection, and courage to get to a point where I could confidently express my personal identity and take pride in it.

I’ve come to realize that who I am and how I identify is not static and that’s ok! I’m allowed to grow, to change and to evolve. (You are too!)

I’ve also learned that it’s important for me to be connected to the queer community and to see and hear about stories similar to mine. I learned that who I am and who I know myself to be is something to be celebrated- not kept in secret behind closed doors.

Questions like this used to scare me. I knew that their would be folks out there who would be critical and judgmental. I can’t tell you not to worry and that those people don’t exist; they do and I’ve faced my fair share of discrimination. However, I’ve also learned that these people are the minority. More often, people are curious, under informed or misinformed.

Today, I welcome questions like this and see them for what they really are: someone expressing interest in getting to know who I truly am and what makes me unique. I see this question as an opportunity to be seen and to celebrate my authentic individuality.

I enjoy creating and holding a safe space for clients of all backgrounds who may be interested in exploring, integrating, embracing and/or celebrating their own unique identities.

Do you have another question that I haven’t answered here? Please, feel free to reach out and ask me directly.
